Houston's Museum of Fine Arts is the oldest art museum in Texas and houses nearly 70,000 pieces from 6 continents. The museum’s permanent collection exhibits over 6,000 years’ worth of diverse history. Established in 1924, the fine-art museum is one of the country's largest art museums and the 12th-largest in the world by gallery area.
The largest parts of the museum’s galleries consist of Italian Renaissance paintings, French Impressionism, photography, African and pre-Columbian gold, European and American decorative arts, American art, and post-1945 American and European painting and sculpture.

Films of distinct significance play regularly in the Brown Auditorium Theatre, while sculptures of many materials can be found throughout the museum.
The Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens showcases American decorative art and furniture in a historic house 5 miles from the main museum campus and also boasts formal woodland gardens. A similar facility, the Rienzi, displays European decorative arts. Collections of all kinds provide such a wide variety that the museum’s exhibitions can appeal to anyone.

Group visits and tours are available through advance reservation on the Museum of Fine Arts' website or by email. Groups of 10 or more can obtain discounted admission and the option for private guided tours. A reservation is confirmed with an order number and advance payment.
